SPECIAL NATIONAL PREVIEW PRESENTATION
‘WHO IS ME’ with Lucia Bendia – Dramaturgy: Elia Castello | Lucia Bendia
Who is me written in the summer of ’66, revisited several times by Pasolini and published posthumously in 1980 edited by Enzo Siciliano, this text is an autobiographical work that was never fully completed. This work was probably conceived by Pasolini as a self-presentation and presentation of his work to a hypothetical American interviewer and, precisely for this reason, the title originally intended was ‘Who is me’. This singular cue offered Pasolini the opportunity to rethink and retrace his life, introducing himself to a new American audience that perhaps knew his work as a filmmaker, but was unaware of other works by the Italian intellectual or the news and customs episodes that, sometimes against his will, concerned him.
Thus was born an episodic and epidictic work in which Pasolini has the opportunity to portray himself according to his perspective, his feelings and his poetics, and the result is a “bio-bibliographical poem,” as Pasolini himself defines it. Well, this expression effectively outlines the main aspects of this text in which biography and literature constantly merge. Starting from his great youthful love for poetry, then moving on to novels, up to the arrival of cinema, for which future projects are presented,
‘Who is me’ is a cross-section of Pasolini’s multifaceted intellectual work in all its forms. In this examination that Pasolini himself makes of his life and work, one has the opportunity to contemplate a great portrait of one of the greatest intellectual figures of the second half of the twentieth century, where great passions, social criticism, pain, and disappointments of an intellectual ready to show himself in all his humanity intertwine. And so, after having retraced his work in all its multiple forms, this “poem” cannot but close with an icastic declaration of poetics, almost a manifesto of a sensibility that had not yet been fully expressed.
